On Monday, October 6, 2020, Terry Birdsong, devoted husband and father of two wonderful girls, passed away in his home at the age of 65. Terry was born December 25, 1954 in San Antonio, TX to Lee and Lucille (Hentzschel) Birdsong. A car dealership manager most of his adult life, Terry found his calling when he became a substance abuse counselor for the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, working with inmates with substance abuse problems. It became his passion to see lives transformed. In December of 2014, Terry married his co-worker and loving wife, Susan (Wendelken) Birdsong. He used to introduce her as “the woman I met in prison” omitting the details intentionally. It became the running joke throughout their remaining marriage. Terry was known for his love of corny jokes, all things fishing, his dogs, his horses and his log home on 30 acres - which he had built with his good friend of 30 years, Ray Schumate. His home was his castle & his farm was the apple of his eye & now, at his request, will be his final resting place. Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille, and his older brother, Randall Birdsong. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his father, Lee, his sister Betsy Birdsong Engel and his two daughters, DeAnna Porter and Meggan Birdsong and his granddaughter Ashley Porter. Funeral services will be at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, WV, on Saturday, October 10, 2020, with open.visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at which time the funeral will begin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Project Hope for Women and Children in Huntington, WV.
