Terry Lynn Wolford, 71, of Sandyville, WV departed this life at her home, surrounded by family, friends, and love, on Saturday, April 19, 2025. For nearly 12 months to the day, she fought a fierce, private battle with the most positive attitude and will to live. None of us who witnessed her courage and strength will soon forget how hard she fought to stay with us.
Terry was a graduate of Ravenswood High School in the Class of 1971 and was a daughter to the late Creed and Helen Gale Balser of Crooked Run Road. She fondly recalled her childhood and teen years growing up with the families who settled in that neighborhood, including the Flanagans, the Burchetts, the Prides, the Gwinns, and the Shockeys. After being a homemaker, and before retiring, she spent several years working the front desk at His & Her Day Spa of Ripley and had so much fun with her “beauty shop girls” and favorite customers.
Terry’s favorite things included camping, particularly at Summit Lake, laughing with friends, enjoying summertime in the pool, crafting of all sorts, and “spending Pap’s money” at Walmart while shopping with her sweet Liddy. Some of the best times of her life were spent visiting dear friends, who became her second family, The Kimballs of Tyler County…bingo games with her dear friend Darla at the Harvest Festival were some of her best memories. Terry also was so looking forward to spending lots of special girlfriend time with her sister Debbie who recently moved back home to Jackson County from Marlinton.
Terry prided herself on being a wife and mother first…she was married for 54 years to the love of her life, Bobby, and was the type of mom that all her kids’ friends wished for…fun, strict when she needed to be, able to talk to about anything, feisty, and was known for making the best homemade pizza in the world for kids sleepovers. It was a huge blessing to her, before she became ill, to be able to witness the weddings of Tracy and J.R. as they also found their perfect partners in life in Scott and Ashley. And when it was her time to be a “Mamaw”, she and Papaw did what all grandparents do, spoiled the heck out of their Liddybell.
In addition to her parents, Terry was preceded in death by her younger brother Richard Balser.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Bobby Wolford; Daughter Tracy Deavers (Scott) of Mannington WV; son J.R. Wolford (Ashley) of Rockport WV; bonus daughter Tashina Castle (Nathan) of Fairplain WV; sisters Chris Balser of Canton OH and Debbie Sundin (Jack) of Ripley WV; brother, Scott Balser (Donna); and bonus grandchildren Lydia and Carson.
The family would also like to recognize The Kimball Family in Tyler County for being with them in their time of need, and to give strength and remind Tracey Dalesio to keep fighting, as she provided such inspiration and motivation during Terry’s battle with cancer.
We would also like to thank the staff at Camden Clark Hospital for their care and concern over the past year, and specifically a special thank you and big hugs to Nurse Jen and Nurse Paige. You both went above and beyond to provide light, love, and humor to us from the very beginning all the way to the end. You will never know what your care and compassion meant to our family.
There will be a service held at Waybright Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 7p.m. with visitation from 5p.m. until the service. In honor of the family’s wishes, Terry will be cremated afterward, and she will forever be a part of her two favorite places, Summit Lake and Topsail Island.
