Thomas E. Tygrett of Ripley passed away peacefully on November 17, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born February 21, 1927 in Fayetteville WV. He was the son of Marion and June Tygrett of Fayetteville. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Harold, Dolphus, Charles, Paul, Kenneth, Raymond (R.G.), and Reginald. Also, by his sisters Margaret, Lucille, Vivian and his granddaughter Jennifer. Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Morrison Tygrett and his sister Betty Sue Mulligan. Other survivors include his children Tom, Steve, Debbie Tygrett Armstead and Rich. Tom has 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood WV after 36 years of dedicated service. Tom was a United States Army Veteran of WWII who served with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 70th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division in Nuremberg Germany from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post 149 in Fayetteville WV. In the summer of 2015, a bridge on the WV turnpike in Fayette County was dedicated to Tom and six of his brothers for their honorable service to their country in WWII and Korea. All returned home safely. A time of visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday November 21st at the Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley WV. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home with Reverend Ford Price officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Memorial Gardens in Cottageville WV after the service. If preferred, a donation can be given to cure childhood cancer to CURESEARCH FOR CHILDRENS CANCER (www.curesearch.org) in honor of Tom’s granddaughter Lauren. She is a 20-year leukemia survivor and registered nurse.
