Tommy D. Harrison

August 31, 1947 — September 29, 2023

Tommy Delton Harrison (76) of Goldtown, WV was born August 31, 1947 and after a lengthy hard fought battle with illnesses, passed away early Friday Morning September 29, 2023. Tommy passed at his home surrounded bedside by Family.

Tommy - fondly known as Tom, Dad, or Papaw is now resting with his Mother - Winnie Clendenin Harrison, Father, Ronsford Delton Harrison also known as “Ted”, and Brother, Jeffrey Lee Harrison. Tommy, a Decorated Army Veteran was proud of his service to his county as a 4th Infantry Demolition Specialist. He was Promoted in the jungle of Vietnam to Sargent E5 during The Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. After the war, Tommy came back to West Virginia and married Janice his now wife of 53 years and started a family. Tommy made a successful career in mining sales which enabled him to retire early in life so he could spend time with his family and maintain his beautiful farmland. Tommy loved to Buy/Sell/Collect Chevrolet Trucks and Cars – both new and old, but always spotless with “socks on the pedals” and well-kept in his garages. Tommy enjoyed trips to the beach with his wife, holidays with his family, and always finding a way to laugh and love with his kids, grandchildren, and friends.

Tommy is survived by his Wife, Janice and Two Sons, Matt and Scott, Daughter-In-Law, Christie Four Grandchildren, Hannah, Zach, Talon, and Madilyn, and one Great Granddaughter, Amillianna. Tommy hated to leave behind all his family and will especially miss his laughs with his cousin - Bobby Wolford and longtime friend – Steve Stamper.

Tommy wanted Butch Gibson to know he appreciated his visits.

For those who called him Tom, knew he was a brave man who would fight for what was right, a loyal man who did what he said, a strong man who paid his debts, a honorable man who was firm but fair, and a prideful man who did it his way. For the two sons who had the honor of calling him Dad knew he was a “Man’s Man” and they understood all too well the firm but fair side. They knew he was a caring and affectionate man who never was at a loss for words whether they be words of encouragement or preparation for the next stage of life. In the end, the word Dad was wrapped in nothing but love and gratitude. Lastly, those four Grandchildren who called him papaw only knew a soft man who would give whatever without question with love and kindness. Tommy was a loving son who took care of his mom, an engaged Dad who provided all things, a friend who impacted the lives he touched, and a devoted husband. To embody Tommy’s “family first” legacy he has left behind more than his and Janice’s homeplace, but a beautiful family farm – to be used by his sons and grandchildren to enjoy and forever have the opportunity to build a home and do as he and Janice did for the last 53 years.

Tommy wanted his beloved cousin and friend Bernard Harrison to lead his burial services. Tommy’s family will host the Viewing Services on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 12:00 – 2:00pm at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley, West Virginia (511 South Church Street). Gravesite Burial Service will be conducted directly after at the family farm located at 486 Highland Farms Road in Kenna WV.
