Tonya Jo Criser, aged 53, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5th, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 27th, 1972, in Sistersville, WV, the daughter of Delmos Price and Joyce (Fields) Burchett.
Throughout her journey, Tonya displayed courage, hope, and unwavering strength. She served as an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Tonya was a devoted mom, wife, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She was a passionate soul who was a source of light to everyone around her. Known for her endless care, compassion, and charity, Tonya has touched the lives of so many.
Tonya had a professional career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and also managed the Ripley City Pool for many years. Tonya loved helping people to such high standards that in her spare time, she volunteered countless hours at the Resource Connection Outreach Center (Quarter Store). Her legacy will continue through each and every life she influenced.
Tonya is survived by her husband, R. Scott Criser, as well as her children, Amanda Hatcher, Brenna Goodson, Maggy Criser, and Kayce Scott. Surviving in addition are mother, Joyce (Fields) Burchett, siblings, Teresa Anaya, Timothy Swain, Karen Gabritsch, Susan Kiser, and Jim Price. She is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a bounty of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, WV. Join us for a memorial service and reception with refreshments, as well as an open opportunity to share memories, stories, and honorable tributes to Tonya.
