Velmada Carney Williams, 93 of Millwood passed away October 19, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, following a long illness. She was born December 19, 1921 at Given, a daughter of the late Jesse Austin and Linnie Hill Carney. She was a resident of Charleston of almost 40 years and was employed at the Quarrier Diner and The Diamond Department Store. In 1963 she became Self-Employed with her Rental Property and when she sold in 1979 she moved back to Jackson County and resided in Millwood. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the Age of 15 at the Moss Chapel Church and was a member of the West Ripley Baptist Church. She has attended many churches in Jackson and Kanawha Counties. God gave her the gift of Love, Compassion and Generosity and she cared deeply for other people. She lived her life caring for family members in sickness and her acts of kindness are a tribute to her memory. The Lord Jesus taught us how to live and die and her favorite book was the Bible. A special thank you to all who helped her in any way. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Lee Williams; a sister Blondena Carney; and brothers Basil Carney, Darrell Carney and Harold Carney. She is survived by brothers Royal Delano Carney and Willard Wayne Carney; sisters Willa Jean Holderman, Mary Jane Barnette and Betty Lou Carney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Service will be 2 pm Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley Burial will be in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
