Vernon Austin Martin, 78, of Evans, WV, entered into his Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, following a short illness. He was born April 29, 1937 in Sissonville, WV to the late Clennie and Alice (Bailey) Martin. Vernon was a graduate of Sissonville High School, Class of 1954. He served 4 years in the United States Navy as a Machinist's Mate. He was well known for his carpentry and remodeling work in Jackson County for many years. In his final years of retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, including his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his true passion of woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clennie and Alice (Bailey) Martin, as well as his sisters, Mildred Rachel Martin, Francine Britton, and Gwendolia Hayes-Dorsey. He is survived by his wife, Karen Martin, his sister, Doris Miller, brother, Dean Martin, his five children, Ronnie Martin (Janet), Todd Martin (Lisa), Lisa Gandee (Steve), Jessica Buckbee (Mike), and Sarah Martin. He has 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Stanley Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Rockcastle with military rites provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard.
