Virginia "Jenny" Carnell

January 24, 1932 — August 27, 2023

“…the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7

Virginia Mae (Gandee) Carnell, of Kenna passed away August 27, 2023, at the tender age of 91 years, 7 months and 3 days.

Jenny was born on January 24, 1932 to the late James Perry and Ora Ellen (Cleek) Gandee. She was a proud member of the 1949 graduating class of Ripley High School. She worked for the WV Department of Highways, as an Office Clerk, retiring with 20 years of service. Jenny had a servant’s heart with true love and compassion for helping and serving others. Whether it was sitting with and attending to a sick or dying friend or loved one, knitting or crocheting prayer shawls, or making lap quilts for those in nursing homes, she loved helping others. She has gifted so many friends and loved ones with beautiful quilts, blankets, afghans and dish towels and mended, hemmed and repaired more clothes than most full-time seamstresses. She truly loved the Lord, loved serving Him and served Him well through her care and devotion to friends, family and those in need. Jenny attended Stonelick Church for many years and currently was a faithful member of Fisher Memorial Church.

Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Carnell; brothers, Basil and Herman Gandee; sisters Gaye Hatcher and Reba Garnes. Father and mother in law Basil and Glada (Wolfe) Carnell; brothers-in-law Darrel and Oshel Carnell and sisters-in-law Anna Knight and Lorene Fisher.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Val Carnell; daughter Sharon Lopez and son and daughter-in-law Jay and Lisa Carnell; her grandchildren Catherine Schola, Bethany Carnell Harper and husband Mark, Joseph Carnell, Stevie Lopez and Ciara Carnell; great-grandchildren Grant and Madision Schola; Peyton and Emma Harper; and Luca and Adriana Lopez. Also surviving sisters-in-law Pat Carnell and Naomi Baldwin and husband Jesse, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors and nursing staff of 6 Front, ICU, and Hospice Care at CAMC Memorial Division for the loving care and excellent service provided during her stay there.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30th at Fisher Memorial Church, Goldtown with Pastor Aaron Finney officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Gandee Cemetery on Stonelick Road, Kenna. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Jenny’s memory to the charity of your choice.
