Virginia L. Rouse

Virginia Cooper Rouse, 102, of Ripley passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center.

Virginia was born January 29, 1922 a daughter of the late Ben and Grace (Hedrick) Cooper. She grew up in Hinton, WV and was graduate a 1940 graduate of Hinton High School. Following high school, she would attend Charleston Business College for a short time. Virginia would retire from Atlantic Greyhound Corporation in 1961. She also worked for the State of WV for 4 years as well as the City of Charleston and would retire again in 1969.

In addition to her parents Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, H. Carl Rouse; brother Paul Cooper; half-brother, Tommy Cooper; stepdaughter Barbara Gero; stepson Robert Rouse, and many dear friends who have already gone to Heaven where she has now gone to join them.

Virginia is survived by six grandchildren, Carl Lowe, Julie Emmert, Ryan Gero, Rob Rouse, Rick Rouse and Jeni Rouse Mosley; half-sister Shirley Ward; 10 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Virginia was active in the Order of the Easter Star and during her years with Charleston Chapter No. 88 she attained Worthy Grand Matron from 1974-75. She transferred membership to R. Douglass Chapter No. 15 in Ravenswood on April 20, 2017 and received her 70-year membership on March 9, 2018. She was also active in the Ripley Pilot Club where she served 2 terms as president.

In honoring Virginia's wishes, a memorial dinner and informal service will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley. The luncheon will be catered and a reservation is required. Please call the Calvary United Methodist Church by Friday, January 17, 2025 with your reservation and number of people that will be attending.
