Walter "Peachie" Phillip Skeen

Walter "Peachie" Phillip Skeen, 74, of Gay Road, Ripley, passed away at his home on August 24, 2015 following a long illness. He was born April 18, 1941 in Charleston the son of the late Gordon Howard and Doris E. Skeen. Phillip joined the U. S. Navy where he was a payroll clerk. He later retired from Ravenswood Aluminum where he worked in casting. Phillip graduated from Ripley High School in 1960 where he was a football standout, and very popular with all the girls. He is survived by his wife Fae Skeen; sons James Skeen, retired Major Mark Phillip Skeen, a physicians assistant of Columbus, Georgia, and Bryan Skeen, production coordinator at AY manufacturing; grandchildren Jacob Tyler, Lauren Nicole, and Nathan Kyle Skeen of Columbus, Georgia; brother, retired Major Marvin H. Skeen of Ozark, Alabama; and sister, Karen Davis of Charleston. He is also survived by special nephew David and Bonnie Fleck, who was like a brother and was always there for Phillip. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Delphia Fleck and brothers Sgt. Charles V., Master Sergeant Aaron L., Allen V., a navy veteran, and Vernon Max, a post master at Leroy, WV. From a poor, but patriotic family the brothers were very honest, poor, and patriotic and were proud of each other and their many accomplishments. Phillip suffered from lung melanoma and graciously donated his body to the West Virginia University Medical School. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
