Wilda Mae “Wig”(Utt) Lockhart, gained her heavenly body on March 10, 2023 after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born October 21, 1933 in Liverpool, Jackson County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Brooks and Theo Scyoc Utt. She was a 1951 graduate of Gilmore High School in Sandyville, WV. Wilda was a member of the Lockhart United Methodist Church.
She married her high school sweetheart, who survives her, Bernard Lockhart, on June 23, 1951. Together they have three children, Birdie Ann Wood (Nick) of Ripley, Brent Lockhart (Criss) of Barboursville and Brian Lockhart (partner Susan Pleasants) of Port Republic, VA; grandchildren, Erin Southern (Brian), Benjamin Lockhart (Mittra), Brook Phillips (John), Brittany Miller and Brandy Lockhart; step grandchildren, Lewis Pauley and John “Manny” Pauley; 9 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Delmar “Bub” Utt of Liverpool.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Wanda “Bunny” Shimp, Carolyn Wilcox and Sharon Utt.
She retired from the Jackson County Board of Education after holding several positions, last serving as the secretary of Ripley Elementary School. She was a member of JCARSE holding the office of Treasurer. Wilda was always up for a “girls day” of card games with family and friends and BINGO. She enjoyed family gatherings and was an avid quilter, embroiderer (many family members enjoy a good night sleep on a pillow case), basket weaving and many other crafts. “Idle minds.” She also enjoyed reading and was a member of the Ripley Library Book Club.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Clergyman Sarah E. Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Liverpool Cemetery, Liverpool, Jackson County. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liverpool Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
