William "Bill" Brittain Wilson, 76, of Ripley passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at CAMC Memorial Division following an extended illness. He was born February 3, 1940 in Washington County, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul W. and Kate Pruitt Wilson, and sister Linda Cox. Bill served for 5 years in the United States Army as a transportation specialist, and also served at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery. He later became a sales representative for Kaiser Aluminum where he would retire after 20 plus years of service. Bill was involved in a number of civic and community organizations in the Ripley area. He was a member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16 since 1968. Bill enjoyed a number of outdoor activities including hunting and fishing and also enjoyed playing golf with his close friends and past co-workers in the community. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Jacob develop and excel playing baseball as a youngster, into his current position as a member of the South Charleston High School Baseball Team. Surviving are his wife of 49 years Doris Chancey Wilson; son Jeff Wilson of South Charleston; daughter Susan Marler (Randy) of South Charleston; special grandson Jacob Marler; step-granddaughter Kaitlyn Marler; and close family friend Tony Gregory. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with John Gunther officiating. Friends may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery.
