William Brooks Davis

William Brooks “Bill” Davis, 78 of Williamstown, WV, formerly of Parkersburg, WV passed away December 5, 2020 after a lengthy battle with liver cancer, and more recent complications from the China Virus, COVID-19, he died at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born May 19, 1942 in Spencer, WV, a son of the late Harlan Brooks and Virginia Gail Mitchell Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sharon Walker Davis; sons Jeffrey Brooks Davis of Knoxville, TN and Stephen Michael Davis of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Taylor Nicole Davis of Huntington, WV and Kylie Rhiannon Wood of Seymour, TN; sister Dolores Davis McKnight of North Ridgeville, OH; sisters-in-law Karen Walker (Harold) Bumgarner of Vienna, WV and Brenda Walker (Stan) Street of Hilton Head Island, SC. as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Allen Davis as well as father and mother-in law Clifford Noyes and Thelma Parsons Walker. Bill was a member of the United Association, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 495 in Cambridge, OH, and retired in 2004. He loved music, both instrumental and vocal. He played first-chair trumpet in the Spencer school bands, and was Drum Major for many of his school years. He was happiest anytime he was mowing grass and working his beloved farm in Spencer (also where he was raised), watching sports, playing golf, sitting with his miniature Dachshund “Ollie” on his lap, or spending time with his family and friends. He was always eager and willing to coach sports, lead scouts, and participate in all activities in which Jeff and Michael were involved; he remained so very proud of them as they became men who, in turn, were eager and willing to help him. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and he had the uncanny ability to be “spectator, coach, referee, and sprots announcer” all at the same time, while either attending or from the comfort of his home. He loved to travel, and after cancelling a two week 50th anniversary cruise to Alaska due to Wegener’s Granulomotosis, he has been able to check off many places from his bucket list, including many destinations in the US and 14 countries in Europe. He was a loving and loyal son, husband, father and grandfather; he will be remembered for his kindness to others, his ethical values, his heartwarming and contagious laugh, and his positive attitude during the last nine years of extraordinary health issues. As one doctor wrote “we will remember him not only for his gratifying visual recovery from brain abscesses in 2012, but also for his uncomplaining graciousness in the face of multiple cruel illnesses.” His faith in Jesus Christ assures that he is now in Heaven with his Savior, and although we will miss him dearly, that brings enormous comfort to those who loved him. He was a Charter Member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV, where he sang bass with the NHBC Choir, Men’s Ensemble, and Love’s Reflections. His celebration of Life will be a tribute to his love of music. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV (1777 Rosemar Rd., Parkersburg, WV 26105), with Pastor Troy Nesselrode officiating; visitation is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Shady Dale Cemetery near Harmony, WV, just a few miles from his farm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the New Hope Baptist Church.
