William Thomas Goodson

William Thomas “Tom” Goodson, 77, of the Tug Fork community, Ripley, WV passed away September 20, 2023 at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV following an extended bout of health problems. He was born June 3, 1946 in Charleston, WV to the late James Edward and Edna (Hatcher) Goodson. In addition to his parents Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Summers.

Tom was a miner and, at retirement, was employed by the Jackson County Board of Education as an electrician/carpenter in the maintenance department.

Tom loved fishing, hunting, singing, playing card games and was talented in woodworking. He was a generous man and wanted to feed or give groceries to anyone who came by.

Tom leaves behind his loving wife, Velma “Mackie” (Hatcher) Goodson of 56 years. They were married January 7, 1967 at Salt Hill Community Church. He gave his life to his Lord shortly thereafter and was a member at Salt Hill for many years. He was a member of the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church for the last 25 years. He enjoyed serving the Lord in teaching, lay-preaching and ministering in the nursing home and to the church widows.

Other survivors include daughters Lisa (Kelly) Snyder of Ripley, Lori (Jeff) Renner of Arvilla, WV and Lynn Allen of Middletown, DE; son Tommy (Bri) Goodson of Ravenswood; grandchildren Becca Snyder of St. Marys, WV, Luke and Rachel Snyder of Ripley, Derek Renner of Akron, OH, Danielle (Drew) Casto of Arvilla, WV, Dillon (Sarah) Renner of Oxford, England, Alisha (Trey) Dunkelberger of West Palm Beach, FL, Drew Allen of Elkton, MD and Emily and Matthew Goodson of Ravenswood, WV.

Service will at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church, Ripley with Pastor Jeff Keffer, Missionary Dillon Renner and Pastor Kelly Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in the Salt Hill Community Church Cemetery, Ripley. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
