Doug Parrish

William Douglas “Doug” Parrish, or “Coach” to many was born January 26, 1944 and passed on May 23, 2026.

Doug was a Christian and was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline (Waybright) Parrish and father, Ray Hamilton Parrish. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Paulette Rhodes and a baby brother and sister.

He is survived by his children Susan Parrish and Eric Parrish (Donnetta); grandchildren Drew Parrish (Mina), Carter Parrish (Chloe Hayman) and Kalyn Parrish and great-granddaughter Mara Rae.

Doug was a graduate of Ripley High School with the Class of 1962. He graduated from Morris Harvey College and West Virginia State University with degrees in art and health/physical education. He was a teacher at Ravenswood High School for many years and coached football and baseball. Baseball was the game he loved and he imparted his knowledge of the sport to many young athletes. He coached Ravenswood to the 1999 State Baseball Championship. He was creative in sculpting and painting, loved musica and also taught many students to dance in physical education.

The family wishes to thank the Ravenswood Care Center and Kanawha Hospice for the care he received.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26th at Waybright Funeral Home with Dee Rhodes officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Committal service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27th at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Sandyville. Procession will be leaving from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
